Poachers kill tigress, hack into pieces in Itanagar zoo

ITANAGAR, Sept 25: In a bizarre incident, a tigress of Itanagar Zoo was killed last night by unknown miscreants inside the Zoo complex. Aged 5 years and nine months, the Royal Bengal tigress born in Itanagar Zoo itself on 29th December 2007 was one of the few local born species.  Named ‘Oni’ by the Zoo officials, her killing has shocked both Zoo officials as well as animal lovers of the state.

The incident came to light around 9 PM Monday night, when the night guards found tigress missing from her safe enclosure. The guards grew suspicious seeing blood stained on the floor and locks being broken. They alerted the Range Forest Officer, who in turn informed Joram Dopum deputy chief wildlife warden cum ex-officio Zoo director. The Zoo officials lodged an FIR at Itanagar police station and also a separate departmental enquiry is being carried out.

While briefing the presspersons outside Zoo veterinary hospital this afternoon where postmortem was done, Dopum said, “The night guards had gone to have dinner at 8 PM. When they came back at 9 PM they could not find tiger at the enclosure. They started search operation and found the Caracas of tigress few meters away from the enclosure where they usually sleep at night time. The miscreants cut the body into pieces. However, they did not touch vital body parts like tail, claws, and teeth. Even the head was not damaged.” Further he added, “Postmortem reveals that she died of two bullet wound. Most probably she was shot at point blank range.”

When asked who could be involved, he said, “The investigation will tell us everything. It is too early to make a judgment at this point of time.”

Parliamentary Secretary for environment and forest CT Mein has termed the incident as shocking and promised that department will take every step to ensure that guilty persons are punished as per law.

The Itanagar Zoo is guarded by 22 animal keepers and 14 night guards. The Zoo houses many endangered species like clouded leopard, hoolock gibbon, Slow Loris, capped Langur and Royal Bengal tiger.

Meanwhile All Arunachal Pradesh Forest Worker’s Union has called on police to arrest the culprits involved in the incident at the earliest possible. Union also urged forest department to engage regular staffs of department as guard at Zoo.

 

 

Governor reviews flood situation

ITANAGAR, Sept 25: The Governor of Arunachal Pradesh General (Retd) J.J. Singh reviewed the flood situation in the State with State Planning, Finance & PWD Minister Chowna Mein at Raj Bhavan here today.

The Governor advised the minister to take necessary precautions and to ensure the safety of every individual in the State. He also called for strengthening the emergency and disaster management mechanism.

The Governor suggested that whenever and wherever required, help should be availed from the Air Force, Army and para-military forces stationed in and around the State. Proper communication should be ensured to minimize the movement of people during the period. He also advised for adequate medicines and other health and safety equipments.

The Governor expressed his gratitude to the Indian Air Force for evacuating marooned people. He also conveyed his appreciation to district administration and police force of the flood affected areas for their untiring job.

Mein, who was one of the members of high level official team that conducted an aerial survey of flood affected areas of Bordumsa, Chowkham, Namsai and Tezu on September 22, apprised the Governor of the flood situation and related problems. He also informed the Governor on the actions taken by the State Government to mitigate the problems.

Tadar Tang Memorial Football Tournament

Convincing wins for West Siang, Papum Pare

ITANAGAR, Sept 25: Domar Lollen scored the first hattrick of the tournament as West Siang thrashed West Kameng 5-3 in group match in the 11th Tadar Tang Memorial State Level Football Tournament at Rajiv Gandhi Stadium, Naharlagun today.

Domar scored in 17th, 27th and 33rd minutes to complete his hattrick in a keenly contested match. Vijay Kino and Dari John of West Kameng scored a goal each in 21st and 32nd minutes to reduce the score to 3-2 in the breather. John again found the net in 64th minute to equalize the score but the team conceded two quick goals in the dying moment and finally lost the match.

In another match of the day, Papum Pare defeated East Kameng 2-0 to earn full points.

Tarh Anthony and Tapan Borah scored a goal each in 47th and 62nd minute to register the team’s first win the on-going tournament. Papum Pare lost to APP in the opener.

 

 

BJP demands roll back on fuel price hike

Itanagar, Sept 25: The State Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), in a memorandum to Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, has demanded immediate roll back of price hike in diesel, petrol, LPG capping, SIT probe in the coal scam under the direct supervision of Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) and reconsideration of FDI in retail.

The memorandum addressed to President of India was submitted by state BJP vice presidents Padmeswari Jamoh and B.R. Wage, State General Secretary Tai Tagak, National Council Member, Wangman Lowancgcha, State BJYM president Doni Nich and vice president Dug Saha.

The memorandum also demanded resignation of Prime Minister on moral ground for his lleged involvement in coal scam.

Meanwhile, the State Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) has also filed FIR. against the Prime Minister for his alleged role in Coal Scam at Police Station, Itanagar on September 20 as part of nationwide Yuva Morcha launched programme.

 

 

Rain creates havoc in Lower Dibang Valley

ROING, Sep 25: The past one week of incessant rainfall has left trail of destruction in the low lying and hills region of Lower Dibang Valley district.

Speaking to this correspondent, Bizari Anchal Samity Member (ASM) Robin Perme informed that all agricultural area in Anpum, Bizari and Paglam circle have been inundated by flood water.

 Giving estimate of the losses, Perme said that almost 400-500 acre of agriculture plot has been affected, especially in ‘Bis camp’ and ‘Dunabari’ area off Anpum-Paglam circle. All harvested crops were also destroyed in the heavy showers, he informed.

 A road connecting Anpum and Bizari, executed under Central Road Fund (CRF) has also been washed away by flood water from Sissiri River at several points in 13 km, 9 km and 4 km from Anpum, he informed. The wooden bridge that had served as the only route to agricultural areas of Anpum-Bizari people is also damaged, said Perme. All domesticated cattle of the local people used for agricultural works were also washed away by the flood water.

 All sorts of water borne diseases like Diarrhea and malaria are also spreading in the area, informed Perme and urgently sought the help of District medical department to curb the disease, which is likely to take epidemic form.

The Bizari circle has one sub centre which serves as the health care centre for the entire region run by Karuna Trust. The Anpum-Paglam circle is 60 km far from it’s nearest headquarter Dambuk, and 33 km away from Bizari.

 Responding to the flood damage, sources from Dambuk MLA Jomin Tayeng informed that two ration sorties were in operation today in Paglam-Anpum-Bizari circle continuing the supply of essential commodities to the affected people. Further, efforts are on way to be made the ration supply from Dholla ghat in Assam for Anpum and Paglam area tomorrow, the sources added.

In Roing circle, the worst affected areas are Koronu, Abali, Arungo, Iduli, Chidu-Kebali. Talking to this correspondent from Kebali, Aegami Meme, a local teacher informed that the NHPC road to dam site of Dibang Multipurpose Project that connects Chidu-Kebali-Elopa with Roing has been damaged at several points by the flood water.

 In Kebali village, a house belonging to one old lady Manchi Menda was damaged as tree fell on her house. The village which is situated near the bank of Eze River is also facing the danger of rising water level that threatens to wash away the nearby houses.

 The orange cultivated areas belonging to the villagers of Chidu-Kebali is also badly affected by the heavy showers and flood water. Villagers are putting the estimate of damage to nearly 30,000 orange plants. Meme informed that a cattle grazing land in Elopa, was also washed away by the Dibang river.

 The rising water level of Eze river and the damage to the bridge that connects the plain areas with the hills of Lower Dibang Valley, have left the hills region of the district disconnected from outside world.

 In Hunli-Desali circle, around 100 students of KGBV, 130 students of Hunli government middle school and remaining another 100 school children of Jammu Pani, Elopa residential school and Desali secondary school is facing food shortages. Most of the hostel boarders have left their hostels as their have been acute shortage of food ration. Equally affected in this remote region are the local government staffs and officers who are also stranded without proper essential commodities.

Also stranded are the villagers of Koronu, Abali, Arungo, Iduli and Kapang village. All these villages are now totally cut off from its district headquarter Roing. People are using boats to cross waterlogged areas on the roads, and using the hill tracts to reach Roing.

The Koronu village is being threatened by overflowing Inju river and has become uncross able. On some emergency cases, people are seeking help of elephant or bulldozer to cross the river.

The agriculture area of these villages which is situated in low lying areas is almost flooded with water. Most houses belonging to agricultural labourer have been washed away and they are shifting to safer places in nearby villages. Old Abali village has almost been flooded by rising Aba river for almost four days. All the local agricultural produce and properties have been severely damaged by the flood. People resent that despite such huge losses, they have to be content with mere 25 kg of rice that was the only help offered by the government.

 

 

FCI ‘allegations’ irks AAPSU

ITANAGAR, Sept 25: The All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union (AAPSU) has expressed dismay over report written by Pinuel Basumatary, executive director of Food Corporation of India North East region to chairman and Managing director, FCI headquarter, New Delhi in which he has alleged that AAPSU members has threatened one Anupam Lahiri, general manager FCI Itanagar.

Besides mentioning threat from AAPSU members, Basumatary also wrote about 4 other cases of assault and threatening to FCI officers in Arunachal Pradesh. Stating that FCI members are not safe, he had requested higher authorities to take up security matter of FCI Itanagar staff at appropriate level.

In a release AAPSU President Takam Tatung while taking strong exception to the allegations leveled against apex student body of the state, has given 10 days time to the Pinuel Basumataray to explain on what basis he made such strong allegations.

“He has leveled serious allegation against AAPSU. He needs to come up with proof to substantiate his claim. If he does not respond by next 10 days, AAPSU will lodge police complaint and also file defamation suit against him.” Taking further dig, AAPSU wonders, how come a person who has never visited Arunachal to understand the ground situation, can prepare such report sitting in an air condition room in Guwahati. “Pinuel Basumatary has given example of 5 incidents of alleged attacks and threat received by staffs of FCI, Itanagar. AAPSU condemns such unlawful act and urges state government to provide proper security.

AAPSU said  “FCI officials of trouble-torn NE states like Manipur, Assam and Nagaland face more problem than they face in Arunachal. Therefore this report which shows Arunachal in poor light is not acceptable to us.”

Further AAPSU has questioned the sincerity of FCI towards serving the tribal people of state. “When FCI started its operation in the state, the monthly allocation was fixed at 7600 MT for rice, Sugar 834 MT and wheat 800 MT. Even though population has increased FCI has not enhanced the allocation of food items. This shows the insensitive nature of FCI towards the need of the tribal people of state,” said AAPSU.

AAPSU further called on FCI to regularize those tribal employees who are working under deputation in FCI Arunachal and also called for strengthening the man power. The apex student body has also called on civil supply minister to take note of incident and asked him to interfere so that FCI does not malign the image of Arunachal further at national forum.

Meanwhile, expressing unhappiness over situation arising out of controversy regarding green field airport, AAPSU urged state govt to resolve the issue at the earliest so that development activities are not hampered.

 

 

Umbrey pleads for formation of NE tourism board

ITANAGAR, Sept 25: MLA Laeta Umbrey today called for formation of North East Tourism Board for rapid development of tourism sector in  the  region.

Addressing the one-day workshop on NE tourism under the theme, “Making North East Tourism Ready” organized at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, Umbrey said the NE  region  is endowed with great natural resources and biodiversity. However, the MLA said  despite best efforts of the respective NE Govt, tourism could not pick up as expected, except Sikkim. The  one day event  was organized with the support and guidance of the Ministry of DONER, NEC and the CII.

 Highlighting the activities of the Association of Tour Operators of North India  which was established in 1998 as a common platform  for promotion of tourism industry in the region,   Umbrey said ATONEI had carried aggressive campaign within the region and out side for the promotion of tourism and successfully organized two major events – one at Guwahati in 1999 and another at Shillong  in 2003. But due to some unavoidable reasons, for many years the Association could not organize such events.

Appreciating the NEC for hiring the Tata Consultancy Services to prepare Tourism Master Plan for the region, the MLA, who is also President Association of Tour Operators suggested that the tourism circuits be interlinked and planned in the same way as Special Economic Zones were planned.

“ATONEI is committed to upgrade this  one day event in the future as a major annual tourism event with more activities, Umbrey said  and requested the DoNER Minister to approve the proposal and direct the NEC in this regard.

Several issues pertaining to the development of tourism in the region was discussed at length.

DoNER Minister Pawan Singh Ghatowar, however,  could not attend the workshop due to his sudden visit to flood affected areas of Assam. Arunachal Pradesh was represented by A.K. Singh, Director,Tourism.

Among others, Assam Minister for Transport and Tourism, Chandan Brahma, tour operators from NE states, tour operators of Delhi including M.P. Bezbarua (Former Tourism Secretary, Govt. of India and present Permanent Representative to the World Tourism Organization, Subash Goyal, President, Indian Association of Tour Operators, Subash Verma, President, Association of Domestic Tour Operators of India, DoNER and NEC secretaries, govt. representatives from various NE states were present.

 

 

Uncertainty looms large over LSHE project

RUKSIN, Sept 25: Uncertainty looms large over the ongoing construction of the 2000 MW Lower Subnsiri Hydro Project at Gerukhamukh as a strong anti-dam lobby headed by All Assam Students Union (AASU) has shrouded a cloud of doubt over the project.

The AASU and its allies, who are rigid on their demand, claim that the ongoing dam construction at Gerukhamukh is devoid of technical assessment on the impact on the downstream areas. The protesting groups have stoutly called for scrapping of the project, expressed apprehension that people living in downstream areas would be devastated during any major earthquake.

It may be recalled that several ethnic organizations of Assam led by AASU and TMPK (Takam Mishing Porin Kebang) have been taking up agitational path protesting the NHPC and the Assam Government’s failure to honour the suggestions of the Expert Committee to keep the construction at abeyance till the final reports was verified.

The ‘Expert Committee’ including geologist of Guwahati IIT, Gauhati University and Dibrugarh University that was constituted after tripartite meeting among Assam government, NHPC and representatives of AASU in December 2006, has unequivocally said that the mega-dam projects should not be located in the seismically sensitive Himalayan foothill areas.

The experts observed that the present location of the LSHEP ‘was not appropriate,’ since the site is geologically and seismologically sensitive. Moreover, the seismic design parameter is not properly chosen for the project. It further observed that the main dam is designed to withstand an earthquake of magnitude 8, whereas the site and its adjacent areas have a recorded history of seismic events of magnitude 8.5 or even more.

The seismic design parameter considered for the project as 0.38 peak ground acceleration (PGA) value for an 8.0 M earthquake at 10 km focal depth is largely inadequate. Consideration of the ‘Main Boundary Thrust’ as source of such high magnitude earthquake, which is about 15 km away from the dam site and not giving due consideration to the foothill trust (FHT), which is within the range of 3 km, can largely be considered as a serious drawback. The 1897 and 1950 great Assam earthquakes had their PGA values exceeding 1.0g, the expert committee observed.

Meanwhile, AASU and 26 ethnic organizations have decided to continue their joint movement to block the transportation of construction materials to the project site.

 

 

ANSU organises mega health camp at Seppa

Seppa, Sept 25: Over 800 patients were treated by a team of specialist doctors and health officers during the two days Mega Health Camp organised by All Nishi Student Union (ANSU) at Govt. Higher Secondary School Bazarline, Seppa on September  21 and 22 last.

The doctors, who rendered their valuable services during the health camp included, Dr. Tao Kaki,  Senior Medicine Specialist,  Dr. Lala Wange, MDS Sr. Dental Surgeon, Dr. Tabu Muri, MS Orthopadic Surgeon, Dr. Todak Tawa, MD Gynaecologist, Dr.Tane Jessy Tara MD  Padiatric  and Dr. Kapu Sophin, MO.

Earlier, Dr. Lala Wange advised the people to maintain a healthy way of life and keep their surroundings neat and clean to avoid some common diseases.

The ANSU team also visited the remote Govt. Middle School, Yangfo under Chayang Tajo circle and interacted with the teachers, students and local public.  DIPRO

 

 

Flash floods force citizens to run for lives

CHONGKHAM, Sept 25: The people of Chongkham, Lathao, Piyong and Mahadevpur administrative circles in Namsai sub-division of Lohit district have again been ruthlessly hit by floods.

The current wave of flood has submerged the low lying areas of Alubari-Napatia-Mabira in Chongkham circle, Jona-I, II, III & IV in Lathao circle and Silatoo sectors in Mahadevpur circle forcing thousands of people to run for their lives leaving behind their livestock and immovable properties at the mercy of the fury. The rivers that have altered the demography and geography of Namsai sub-division include Noa-Dehing, Jengthu, Berreng, Tengapani, Siuri, Digaru and Teang.

Mahadevpur local MLA and Minister for Finance, PWD & Planning Chowna Mein, Parliamentary Secretary C.T Mein and MLA Nang Sati Mein monitored the rescue works along with newly joined Namsai ADC. The Assembly Youth Congress Namsai, All Namsai Area Youth Association and local leaders also visited the flood affected areas. The Finance Minister while talking to this correspondent put the loss incurred in the floods to the tune of Rs. 1000 crores.

Since September 19 country boats have been pressed into service to ferry the stranded villagers of Alubari while Namsai administration was toiling hard to ensure that every needed help reaches timely to emerge affected people out of the fury that has so far wreaked tremendous havoc. People were without food, water, electricity, fuel and domestic LPG cylinders, while the roads, bridges, culverts, standing crops suffered massive damages, electric posts uprooted, water supply lines washed away and telephone post uprooted multiplying the suffering of the masses.

So far nine relief camps have been setup in all the administrative circles where around 2300 flood victims from 15 villages have been accommodated with needed relief like rice, dal, blankets, tarpaulin and medicines.                     

Lohit District Students Union president Chow Khunseng Namchoom has urged the state government to pour adequate funds and speed up rescue and relief works. General Secretary AYCN Chow Khai Longchot while thanking his youth members for all out contribution at this time of adversity expressed utmost hope that their contribution would certainly pay dividends.

There is no denying of the fact that the local political leaderships and administration initiated actions at appropriate time and managed to avoid any loss of lives. But the question now arises is whether such ad-hoc measures can make any difference?

The need of the hour is to have detailed study on scientific river management to effectively control the annual menace of floods and erosions. The state government ought to be in touch with flood management agencies to mitigate the consecutive problem. Till date, despite series of devastation caused by floods there has been no comprehensive scientific study of the rivers and its tributaries flowing in the state. A serious scientific research of the rivers, besides other flood-control measures would be needed to effectively check floods.

Since major rivers in the state have its own specific attributes it must be channelized to perfection as building embankments and spurs cannot guarantee full proof security.

The state government must consult with international organizations like the ‘Earth Institute’ on flood management and seek coordination from neighbouring countries and states for sharing metrological data. The government must also step up demand for setting up of a regional office of the Central Water Commission in the state. By doing so, herds of innovative plans and actions would follow. Over Rs 2 crore sanctioned for OPD complex at Seppa hospital

Seppa, Sept 25: Rs.2.25 crore has been sanctioned for construction of OPD complex at District Hospital, Seppa.

While making this announcement during his visit to the hospital recently to tak stock of the various problems of the district hospital, Health Minister Atum Welly instructed the implementing agency to carry out the works in consultation and close coordination with District Medical Officer (DMO). He also instructed DUDA, implementing agency of the newly constructed 40 bedded hospital building to handover it to the DMO after its completion. He asked the DMO to prepare an estimates for additional 25-bed hospital building. He appealed all the medical staff to be sincere in their duties and directed DMO to take action against those out post staff, who doesn’t stay at their respective posting place.

Highlighting the achievements of the Health department in the state, he informed of launching of Arunachal Pradesh Arogy Nidhi (APANI)” for the assistance of the poor patients below poverty line and creation record 100 posts of doctors during the period.

While condemning the reported cases of assault on doctors, he sought cooperation from PRI members, NGOs, students etc. to educate and make people aware of doctors’ rule in the society, who are considered next to god. He however, cautioned the physicians to discharge their duty sincerely.

Responding to the memorandum regarding boundary wall for District Hospital, Seppa, he instructed the DC to conduct a meeting with all the MLAs of the district for contribution of fund for the purpose from their fund. Other point of the memorandum was to

ITANAGAR, Sept 25: UGC-Coaching Centre for Entry in Services Career Counseling Cell of Dera Natung Government College, Itanagar has organized Induction Cum Career Awareness Programme at DN College campus today.

Speaking on the occasion, Secretary to Governor Er Ankur Garg briefed about ‘How to Prepare for the Civil Services Examinations.’ He advised the aspirants of Civil Services examinations to prepare whole heartedly and without wasting time as lingering and delaying preparation prove to be a discouraging factor.

Keh-Meh-Ha celebrated with gaiety in capital complex

ITANAGAR, Sept 25: The Keh-Meh-Ha, a harvest festival of Idu community was celebrated with traditional fervor by Idu community residing in capital complex on 24th of this month. The main programme was held at Hotel Arun Subansiri, here where large number of Idu people turned up.

One of the renowned figures of Idu community and Rajya Sabha MP Mukut Mithi, ZPM Chairperson Dibang Valley Empi Meye attended the programme along with Padi Hinda, member, Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee.

The occasion was marked by cultural and sports activities.

The football tournament was won by Rajiv Gandhi Mishmi Students Union whereas volleyball match was won by Kera-Ah Apiya team of Itanagar. A debate competition under theme ‘Idu Ekobe Nga Na bawe’ on the danger of Idu dialect becoming extinct was held. Athuko Tayu, Ph.D scholar from RGU was the winner of the debate.

Omila Migi chairman of the Keh-Meh-Ha festival committee Itanagar has appealed to all Mishmi legislatures and MP to look for a common Mishmi festival ground in Itanagar for Idu, Digaru and Miju Mishmi staying in capital complex.

“In absence of festival ground we are forced to celebrate in hotel which becomes costly affair. Therefore there is urgent need for a Mishmi festival ground in capital complex,” said Omila. Further he added, “We also appeal Mishmi legislatures to visit their respective constituency. The inclement weather has caused serious trouble to Mishmi people of Lower Dibang Valley, Anjaw, Lohit and Dibang valley. They should visit their constituency to show solidarity with fellow brothers and sisters who are fighting hard for survival.”

 

 

 Anjaw flood situation remains grim

ITANAGAR, Sept 25: The body of the woman, who fell into CC drain on September 22 last, has been recovered yesterday, informed Anjaw district administration in a release. Brensi Pul, aged about 60 years was wife of Late Pukukma Pul of Walla village under Hawai circle. Search operation for recovery of the body of another person Jabrelum Appa, son of Yuze Appa, who drowned in Seng Nallah on September 20 was going on, the release said.

Meanwhile, the flood situation in Anjaw district remained unchanged. All the major rivers, streams and nallahs were in spate. Flood triggered by torrential rains flooded numerous places causing extensive damage to govt and private properties. Reports are pouring from various places regarding damage of agri-horti fields and washing away of livestock. Drinking water supply in Hawaii town has been disrupted since last week. Though there was no report of disease outbreak from any part of the district as of now, the authority has not ruled out the possibility of water borne diseases like diarrhea and fever after the flood.

The main arterial road of Anjaw the Tezu-Kibithoo BRTF road and roads connecting all administrative headquarters, which were damaged during the first wave of flood in June and July, have been totally damaged again in this current wave of flood cutting off the district from rest of the world, the release informed.

There is also report of food crisis in some parts of the district, it said.

The Anjaw deputy commissioner has sent message to the Chief Secretary for air dropping of essential commodities at all the administrative circles of the district.

 

 

Training prog on special Summary Revision of photo electoral rolls

Ziro, Sept 25: “Booth Level Officer (BLOs) are the base of the election system in India, as they work at the grassroots level and are responsible for a free and fair election,” said Lower Subansiri, Deputy Commissioner  Taru Talo, while addressing the BLOs of Yazali and Ziro –Hapoli Assembly constituencies during a training programme on special Summary Revision of photo electoral  rolls at Ziro.

He insisted on strict adherence to the rules and guidelines framed by the Election Commission of India and requested the BLOs to strictly go through the manuals and handout provided to them.

EAC-cum ERO, Ziro-Hapoli, Tajing Padung sought queries and ground level problems faced by the BLOs for open discussion and constructive suggestions from the members and the master trainers present.

ADC-cum-ERO,Yazali AC, Kunto Payeng requested the BLOs to be impartial in reporting forgery and fraudulent cases to the EROs to avoid duplicacy. Sincerity and honesty from the BLOs can definitely help in a fair and free election, he opined.

CO-cum-AEROs, Pistana, Nomya Kakki also requested the BLOs to be present during the hearing so as to check the authenticity of the documents. DIPRO

Bandh postponed

ITANAGAR, Sept 25: The Banderdewa Circle Intellectual Forum (BCIF) has  deferred its proposed 48-hr Capital Complex bandh called from September 27 morning in protest against non-fulfillment of its charter of demands, including  construction of greenfield airport at  Karsingsa, in view of the on going summative-I CBSE examination and to facilitate smooth conduct of the ongoing XI Tadar Tang Memorial State Level Football Tournament, according to a BCIF release.

 

AASSATA demands regularization of 2003 batch SSA teachers

ITANAGAR, Sept 25: All Arunachal Sarva Sikhsha Abhiyan Teachers Association (AASSATA) has  called on the Education Minister today  and appealed for regularization of  2003 batch SSA teachers at one go.

Informing the  minister that majority of the 2003 batch  teachers are yet to be regularized, Association said  all the teachers appointed in 2003 should be treated equally  and regularization of the all the teachers should be considered at one go basis. Meanwhile Association claimed that the minister assured  its delegation  for regularization of the  2003 batch teachers and a committee had already been constituted to look into the matter.

 

Complaint against encroachment

ITANAGAR, Sept 25: All Arunachal Pradesh Government Departmental Labours Union, East Kameng Branch today  appealed to the deputy commissioner to take stern against encroachers of labour barrack at Seppa. Claiming  that some group of people are forcefully occupying the  PWD labour barrack at Seppa and threatened  the labours to vacate it, it sought the personal intervention of the DC to solve the problem.

ITANAGAR, Sept 25:  Claiming that Hindustan Construction Company Pvt Ltd has failed to address grievances of affected people like job opportunities for local youths, Pare Project Land Affected Welfare Committee today  said that  companies  which are being engaged in project works in the state should look into the grievances of the local affected people on priority basis.

Changlang DC advocates for computerization of all Govt offices

CHANGLANG, Sept 25: Changlang Deputy Commissioner in a meeting on e-Governance yesterday strongly advocated for computerization of all the offices of the district.

To start with, the DC directed every DDOs to fully computerize their respective offices Pay Rolls and asked the HoDs to sponsore two employees to undertake training course on computer application, which will soon be imparted  by DIO, Changlang. DIPRO

 

Rodents creates havoc in Deed

Ziro, Sept 25: Rodents created havoc in Deed area under Pistana circle of Lower Subansiri district by damaging cardamom gardens in large scale and standing paddy crops. The farming community of Deed area is in despair as they are totally dependent on the cardamom fields for their livelihood.

Former Deed ASM  Toko Enu appealed to the Govt. on behalf of the Farming community to grant relief assistance to the farmers as they have no other means of income other than it. DIPRO

 

Ration sorties  to Paglam, Dambuk

ITANAGAR, Sept 25: While responding to the letter of Dambuk constituency MLA Jomin Tayeng, the civil supply director asked the district administration to assist people of Dambuk constituency in their fight against nature’s fury.

Tayeng has written a letter to the director of civil supply citing ineffectiveness of the Lower Dibang Valley district administration in providing relief material to flood affected people of Dambuk, Paglam and Anpum.

Meanwhile, chopper pressed into service to supply essential food items at Paglam and Dambuk. 60 quintal of rice  has been provided to the flood affected people  at Paglam by two ration sorties,  while one sortie carrying 28 quintal rice along with essential live saving items  reached at Dambuk. The rice has been issued by MLA Jomin Tayeng from his quota.

Tomorrow,   copter will also be pressed into service to supply  90 quintal rice, 2 quintal salt, 2 quintal dal, 2 quintal nutrela and 5 quintal potato. This is also under the initiative of local MLA Tayeng.

 

Heavy rainfall recorded in Arunachal

ITANAGAR, Sept 25:  Heavy incessant rainfall spell was recorded during the last phase of current monsoon, especially from September 11 till date in entire Arunachal Pradesh.

As per the data available with ICAR, Basar, though such high rainfall was recorded in 1984, 1987, 1990 and 2010 the current non-stop spell has been found to be very unprecedented and noteworthy in this era of climate change. During this month a record rainfall of over 455.5 mm was recorded as against normal rainfall of 319.7 mm (as experienced during the last 30 years).

Similar situation has also been witnessed in all over the state, especially in Pasighat and Tezu resulting in devastating flood, soil erosion, landslides and washing away of kharif drops and horticulture gardents.

Due to heavy rainfall and climatic variations, pests and diseases, particularly insects like Gundhi bugs, diseases like gummosis, web blight, rotting etc.have also increased in all agricultural fields causing major losses.

Landslide snaps road link in Upper Siang

YINGKIONG, Sept 25:  Lanslide and erosion triggered by torrential rain over the last 13 days have disrupted road communication along Pasighat-Yingkiong road.

The Pasighat-Yingkiong road have been cut off as mounds of debris, stone and mud blocked the road at several points. Road communication between Tuting and Yingkiong has also been snapped.

The capsized bridge at Rottung is yet be restored  while Aalo-Yingkiong BRTF road is also blocked at 24 km near Komkar village. Upper Siang has also been facing acute shortage of PDS items especially rice, LPG due to disruption in road communication. DIPRO

 

Life Care Foundation offer dental care services

MIAO Sept 25: Life Care Foundation since its inception in 2008 has been playing a significant role in reaching out to people of Vijaynagar Circle by offering the much needed medical help coming from friends in the churches and public leaders including Miao local MLA and Minister Kamlung Mossang on one time support basis.

LCF is organizing a 6-day dental care and training camp from September 24 to 29 at Upper Miao where free consultation, check up and medicines are being provided on dental health. The NGO will also be giving dental training to health workers of Vijaynagar circle.     

Co-incidentally, three doctors among 8 tourists visiting Deban-Miao during this period has agreed to spare their time for the camp, said LCF Director Philip Ngwazah while informing that anyone with dental problem can visit the camp and take benefit from it.

The learned tourist doctors from United States include Dr. Eric Bernard Langellier, Dr. Harold Lloyd Maynard and Dr. Kenneth Wayne Lose, who deserve appreciation and good wishes.

Earlier in January 2011 and February this year, LCF organized free medical camps in five villages in Vijaynagar valley during which hundreds of villagers with various ailments were provided medicines free of cost.

Development activities under Bordumsa reviewed

ITANAGAR, Sept 25:  A coordination meeting of Bordumsa Sub-Division was held in the office chamber of the additional deputy commissioner, Bordumsa, to take the stock of ongoing developmental activities undertaken by various Government Developmental Agencies of Bordumsa Sub Division.

All local heads of department from Bordumsa and Diyun circle attended the meeting.

Chairing the meeting, ADC  Kento Riba gave emphasis on effective and timely execution of developmental projects by the executing agencies without compromising the quality of the works. He also exhorted the local heads of department to cultivate work culture through punctuality and regularly attending office attendance. He urged them for prompt disposal of public grievances, timely clearance of files, maintenance of decorum and discipline in the office.

Respective head of Department presented their achievement reports for the period from April 1 to September 20,  2012.

Zilla Parishad Members of Bordumsa and Diyun and the Chairperson, Anchal Samity of Bordumsa and Diyun Anchal Samity also addressed the meet.

 

 

Association submits memo to MLA

ITANAGAR, Sept 25:  Claiming that Thrizino sub-division of West Kameng district has been facing shortage of teaching staffs and other basic infrastructures for last 20 years, Aka Emplyee’s Welfare Association, Thrizino today demanded the local MLA to look into matter.  

In a 9th points memorandum submitted to  local MLA, the  association also sought transfer of full-fledged additional deputy commissioner for the smooth and effective functioning.  Highlighting various problems faced by common people, it further appealed to its local representative to pursue the matter for the restoration of primary health centre at Thrizino.  It also demanded for early establishment of police station at Thrizino to contain law and problem. The other points included in the memorandum  are demands for SBI branch, re-establishment of craft centre and establishment of large size multipurpose cooperative society at Thrizino.

 

 

Meets on Special Revision of Electoral Roll

Aalo,  Sept 25: A meeting on Special Revision of Electoral Rolls, attended at large by agents of political parties, EROs and AEROs of West Siang District was held under the Chairmanship of District Election Officer Marnya Ete at Conference Hall of DC’s office on September 24.

Addressing the gathering, the DEO asked all EROs, AEROs, BLOs to complete all election related works within stipulated time as per the guidelines of ECI since election works are time bound. He appealed all political parties to cooperate with election representatives appointed all over the district in 238 polling stations. He also asked all EROs to pass instructions to the teaching staff, who have been appointed as designated officers to perform their duties only after teaching hours. Timely dispatch of election related messages and intimation to DEO on election related problems should be taken care of, he said.

Participating in the discussion, former minister Doi Ado stressed on checking of double entries of voters and movements during casting of votes in 30, 31 and 32 ST Assembly Constituencies.

DCC (I) and BJP presidents Gedo Kato and Komduk Loya also shared their experiences and assured all cooperation from their side.

Earlier, welcoming the gathering, T. KGBV teachers assured of enhanced salary

ITANAGAR, Sept 25: Education Minister Bosiram Siram has assured to look into the demands of the All Arunachal Pradesh Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidalaya Teachers Association (AAPKGBVTA)  for  enhancement  of the salary of the KGBV teachers. The assurance came when a delegation of the  AAPKGBVTA called on the minister and urged him to enhance the salary, the Association  claimed in a release. The Association hoped that its demand will be fulfilled at the earliest. Earlier, it had served 15 days ultimatum to the authority demanding enhancement of the teachers’ salary.
